Jack Sellers has lived at Columbia Cottage in Florence, Alabama since 2015. He was born and raised in Alexander City, Alabama, known to locals as Alex City. After graduating from high school, he entered The University of Alabama, where he studied in the College of Business and Commerce. During his time at Alabama, Mr. Sellers was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He and his fraternity brothers won many intramural championships played on the Quad.

Mr. Sellers’ college plans were cut short when he enlisted to fight in the Second World War in 1942. He served four years in the US Air Force, working on aircraft like the B-25, and he instructed his fellow troops in aircraft maintenance and air gunnery. During his time with the US Air Force, Mr. Sellers met a girl who played on the USO Tour, married her, and moved back to Alexander City, where they brought their first son into the world.

He is the very proud father of two sons, Brian and Jack, and he has three grandchildren, Jennifer, Allison, and Evan. He enjoys playing his piano and collecting coins and baseball cards. He is proud of his baseball card collection, which includes a gold-leaf Babe Ruth, but when you ask him what his favorite collection is, he says it is a collection of memories that includes the many famous people he has met throughout his lifetime. He sat in his business class with Gene Stallings, nearly ran over Jimmy Hoffa, and he helped welcome Bob Hope to Anniston, Alabama when the welcoming entourage never showed up. When asked if Jayne Mansfield happened to be the beautiful lady on the USO tour whom Mr. Sellers fell in love with, he replied, “No, but I have a picture of her on my phone!”

Mr. Sellers enjoys living at The Cottages, because, he says, “If you need help, this is the place to be.”
