On June 16 of this year, Columbia Cottage at Mountain Brook celebrated the 105th birthday of Ms. Dorothy Levy. Ms. Levy helped found Spastic Aid of Alabama, which is now United Ability, an organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities and helping to connect them to their communities.
Ms. Levy celebrated her birthday with several special individuals. There was cake and playground fun with the students of United Ability, and at the Cottage, MoonPie and the Vestavia Hills Fire Department joined in on the party. Ms. Levy requested that the firefighters help her blow out her birthday candles.
When asked about living a long life, Ms. Levy said she doesn’t have a special secret, although she tries to stay active and exercise. She said, “I get up in the morning and I eat a good breakfast, and at night I cheat and eat all the wrong things, and I still survive.”
